FLORAL CLIPART
RED POPPIES (Mostly corn poppies, field poppies):

Below are two pictures I took near the French/Swiss border in early June 1977. We had driven completely around Lake
Geneva, starting from Geneva along the north shore, stopping at Chillon Castle, etc. and along the way I'd seen little patches
of red poppies along the road and wanted to get a picture of them but there was never a good place to pull off for that
anywhere the poppies were growing. The largest patch we passed was about 15 feet long and I felt really sorry to miss
out on a picture of that one. We curved around the far eastern end of the lake and started down the southern side, dipping
down into France for a while to visit Annecy. We were supposed to climb the Saleve before returning to Geneva, but I
wasn't really keen on that and was relieved to see it had a cloud completely covering its top, rendering an ascent to
see the view useless. I saw a little path leading up over a rise and followed it just to see where it would go and when I got
to the top, lo and behold, stretching out before me were more poppies than I'd ever seen. And I was afoot and with a
camera in hand!!! The color has faded now, but for someone who'd felt badly about not getting a picture of 15 feet of
poppies, this was marvelous beyond belief! In the background of the photo on the left, you can see the base of the
Saleve and some of the cloud atop it.
